What's That Patch Sleep Deep overnight patch
What's That Patch has launched Sleep Deep, a melatonin-free transdermal patch for overnight use. It is the first nighttime product in the brand's range of daily wellness patches designed to help users fall asleep faster, stay asleep through the night and wake without the next-day grogginess associated with some sleep aids.
What's That Patch notes that the body produces around 0.3mg of melatonin a night, while most supplements contain 5 to 10mg, and says it has avoided the ingredient to sidestep the disrupted circadian signalling, morning grogginess and escalating doses that some long-term melatonin users report. Instead, Sleep Deep combines four active ingredients, each targeting a separate sleep mechanism, where the brand says most sleep supplements rely on a single ingredient and a single pathway.
The four actives are honokiol, oleamide, palmitoylethanolamide and apigenin. Honokiol, a magnolia bark extract dosed at 16mg, supports GABA-A activity and the brain's sleep-promoting neurons, with EEG-confirmed studies showing it shortens the time taken to fall asleep and increases NREM sleep without suppressing deep sleep or REM. Oleamide, at 5mg, is a fatty acid amide the body produces naturally, its concentration in cerebrospinal fluid rising several times over during sleep deprivation as the body's own signal to sleep. Palmitoylethanolamide, or PEA, also at 5mg, is an endocannabinoid-like compound that in a 103-person double-blind, randomised, placebo-controlled trial reduced the time taken to fall asleep and improved cognition on waking after eight weeks. Apigenin, the active behind chamomile, is dosed at 6mg and supports GABA activity, with published evidence of around 47% cortisol reduction. It is also linked to NAD+ preservation, connecting the product to the brand's NAD+ Longevity Patch.
The formula also contains magnesium bisglycinate and a small amount of capsaicin, which acts as a permeation enhancer.
What's That Patch makes the case for the transdermal format on the basis of timing. While oral capsules peak within one to two hours then tail off, a patch releases steadily across the whole night rather than peaking and fading. Each patch is applied to clean, dry skin before bed and worn overnight. What's That Patch produces a range of transdermal wellness patches built around the idea of delivering active ingredients through the skin rather than through pills or powders. Co-founded by Arnaud Touret, the brand's range spans stress, cravings, focus, energy and recovery, with the NAD+ Longevity Patch its bestseller. The existing line-up includes NAD+ Longevity, Crave Control, Stress Less, Productivity, Collagen Pro and Bounce Back, which Sleep Deep now joins.
On the launch, co-founder Arnaud Touret said: "Every sleep product on the market is either melatonin at doses the body was never designed to handle, or the same handful of herbal sedatives that have been in supplements for 20 years. We built Sleep Deep to work at the receptor level, using compounds the body already recognises. No dependency. No grogginess. No suppression of the deep sleep and REM stages your brain actually needs."
Sleep Deep is sold in packs of 30 overnight patches, a one-month supply, priced at £19. It is available at whatsthatpatch.com.
