CeraVe expands sun care range

CeraVe has expanded into dedicated sun care, launching a new collection of face, body and stick formulas designed to address some of the most common reasons consumers avoid wearing sunscreen.

Introduced under the positioning “Sun Care You Want to Wear”, the range focuses on lightweight, fast-absorbing textures intended to leave no visible white cast, greasy residue or sticky finish.

The launch marks a significant category expansion for CeraVe. Although the brand has previously offered daily facial moisturisers containing SPF, its new collection comprises standalone sun protection products developed for different skin types, areas of the body and application preferences.

The UK line-up includes the Invisible Dry Touch Fluid Sunscreen SPF50+, Invisible Hydrating Fluid Sunscreen SPF50+, Invisible Hydrating Sunscreens SPF30+ and SPF50+, and the Invisible Sun Stick SPF50+.

The Invisible Dry Touch Fluid SPF50+ has been developed for normal to oily skin. Its non-comedogenic and fragrance-free formula combines niacinamide with three essential ceramides and is claimed to provide up to 12 hours of oil and shine control. Its lightweight texture is also designed to sit beneath make-up without leaving a greasy finish.

For normal to dry skin, the Invisible Hydrating Fluid SPF50+ combines broad-spectrum UVA and UVB protection with CeraVe’s controlled-release MVE Technology. The formula contains niacinamide and three essential ceramides and is positioned as a hydrating facial sunscreen with a lightweight, dewy finish.

The larger Invisible Hydrating Sunscreen formulas can be applied to both the face and body and are suitable for adults and children, including those with sensitive skin. Available in SPF30+ and SPF50+, the products are water, sweat and sand resistant and provide up to 24 hours of hydration without leaving stickiness or visible residue.

Completing the collection is the Invisible Sun Stick SPF50+, an 8g portable format intended for the face, lips and other sensitive or frequently exposed areas. The fragrance-free, sweat-resistant formula is designed for targeted application and sunscreen top-ups throughout the day.

Each of the products contains CeraVe’s three skin-identical ceramides — AP, NP and EOP, also known as ceramides 1, 3 and 6-II — alongside advanced filters offering protection against UVA and UVB radiation. The brand’s approach positions sun protection as part of maintaining the skin barrier, rather than treating sunscreen and skincare as two separate categories.

CeraVe’s barrier-led positioning draws on research examining the effect of ultraviolet radiation on the skin’s surface structure. A peer-reviewed study published in the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology exposed participants’ skin to a UV dose described as equivalent to approximately two hours outside on a sunny July day in New York. The study found that UV exposure caused erythema, hyperpigmentation and changes to the organisation and maturation of skin-surface cells. Skin treated with a ceramide-containing sunscreen and moisturiser showed reduced erythema and pigmentation, improved hydration and better-preserved surface-cell morphology.

The wider sun care collection has launched across more than 30 countries.

The collection is now available in the UK through CeraVe stockists, including Boots and Superdrug.
