Jo Malone London has launched Sea Salt & Bergamot Cologne, a new fragrance inspired by the untamed British coastline and the sensation of swimming in the Celtic Sea. The new scent expands the house’s collection of sea salt-inspired fragrances, taking a different perspective on the coast from its bestselling Wood Sage & Sea Salt. Where Wood Sage & Sea Salt captures the windswept shoreline, Sea Salt & Bergamot moves into the water itself, translating the freshness, minerality and movement of the sea through a fresh woody composition.

The launch forms part of Jo Malone London’s wider exploration of Britain through fragrance, with the house continuing to draw inspiration from landscapes, ingredients and experiences associated with the British Isles.

Bergamot, sea salt and driftwood

Created by perfumer Mathilde Bijaoui, Sea Salt & Bergamot has been built around three principal notes. Bergamot opens the fragrance with a bright burst of citrus freshness before giving way to sea salt at its heart, creating the mineral quality designed to evoke waves and salt water. A driftwood accord anchors the fragrance at the base, bringing a soft woody character and grounding the brighter citrus and marine elements. Together, the notes create a fresh and woody interpretation of the coast rather than a traditionally aquatic fragrance, reflecting the contrast between cold open water and sun-warmed wood washed onto the shore.

The fragrance sits alongside Wood Sage & Sea Salt within Jo Malone London’s fresh and woody scent family. The latter combines ambrette seeds, sea salt and sage to evoke a windswept shore, while Sea Salt & Bergamot uses brighter citrus and driftwood to move the olfactory story out into the water. A new chapter in Jo Malone London’s coastal fragrances

Sea Salt & Bergamot builds on a longstanding relationship between Jo Malone London and British landscape-inspired perfumery. The new launch is conceived as the “scent of a new adventure”, taking its inspiration from an exhilarating plunge into the Celtic Sea, where the freshness of bergamot meets the mineral quality of salt water and the warmth of driftwood. The fragrance also maintains the house’s approach to scent layering, allowing it to be worn alone or combined with other Jo Malone London colognes and body products to alter its freshness, warmth or depth.

Its launch follows an advance sampling campaign in July, when customers spending £100 through Jo Malone London could receive an early 1.5ml sample of Sea Salt & Bergamot ahead of its wider release. The Cologne is now included within Jo Malone London’s UK 100ml fragrance collection alongside scents including English Pear & Freesia, Peony & Blush Suede, Pomegranate Noir and Lime Basil & Mandarin.
