Revision Skincare D·E·J BioStim Treatment Solution
Revision Skincare has launched D·E·J BioStim Treatment Solution in the UK, a professional-only treatment designed to stimulate the skin’s own production of collagen and elastin without needles.
Its arrival comes as “biostimulation” has become an increasingly prominent part of aesthetic medicine. The term is more commonly associated with injectable products intended to prompt the body to produce new collagen over time, rather than simply adding volume. D·E·J BioStim takes a different route. It uses a combination of acids applied to the skin, with Revision Skincare positioning the treatment between professional skincare and the growing regenerative aesthetics market.
D·E·J refers to the dermal-epidermal junction, the boundary where the epidermis meets the underlying dermis. The structure plays a role in communication between the two layers and changes as skin ages. Revision Skincare has made the D·E·J a focus of its wider product range, which already includes D·E·J Face Cream, Night Face Cream, Eye Cream and Daily Boosting Serum. The new treatment is the first professional-only product in that family to use what the company calls BioStim Acid Technology.
The patent-pending system combines antioxidant phytoacids with a multi-acid delivery system. A US trademark filing for the technology describes it as a cosmetic complex made from multifunctional acids, while the D·E·J BioStim trademark specifically references alpha- and beta-hydroxy acids. The finished treatment also contains salicylic acid. Unlike an injectable collagen biostimulator, nothing is placed beneath the skin. Instead, successive layers are applied topically during an in-clinic treatment.
Revision Skincare tested D·E·J BioStim over 12 weeks, using a course of three treatments performed four weeks apart. By the end of the study, visible improvement was recorded in 78% of participants for skin firmness, 88% for fine lines, 88% for skin texture, 81% for wrinkles, 81% for luminosity and 91% for the appearance of pores. The treatment has been developed for use across skin tones, including darker complexions where aggressive resurfacing can carry a greater risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
Although the product is applied like a peel, it is intended to be used as a course of three treatments, spaced between two and four weeks apart. Revision Skincare recommends a maintenance treatment approximately every four months. Patients are also advised to prepare the skin for one to two weeks beforehand, including daily broad-spectrum SPF and temporary discontinuation of retinoids and products containing alpha-, beta- or poly-hydroxy acids. After treatment, heavy peeling is not expected and is not considered necessary for the treatment to have worked. Although the face is an obvious treatment area, D·E·J BioStim can also be used on the décolletage, arms, legs, knees and abdomen.
In aesthetic medicine, injectable biostimulators such as poly-L-lactic acid are placed beneath the skin and produce a controlled tissue response intended to increase collagen production over time. Revision Skincare is using the same broad principle – prompting the skin to make more of its own structural proteins – but attempting to achieve it through a topical professional treatment. D·E·J BioStim does not replace volume, reach the same tissue depth or work through the same mechanism as an injectable biostimulator. It is better understood as a new type of professional resurfacing treatment with a collagen- and elastin-stimulation claim, rather than a needle-free version of an injectable product.
Revision Skincare D·E·J BioStim Treatment Solution is available now to UK clinics through AestheticSource.
