Fernando Alonso Becomes the Face of Performance Longevity at SHA
SHA has appointed Fernando Alonso as its new Global Ambassador and Wellness Advisor, aligning the medical wellness group’s approach to longevity with one of the longest and most enduring careers in Formula One.
At 45, Alonso continues to compete in one of the world’s most physically and cognitively demanding sports. His career encompasses two Formula One World Championships, 32 Grand Prix victories, 106 podium finishes and 22 pole positions, giving SHA a recognisable example of what sustained performance can look like beyond the conventional peak of an elite athlete’s career.
In a wellness market crowded with the language of longevity, the partnership gives the idea a particularly clear premise. SHA is presenting longevity not simply as the pursuit of additional years, but as the preservation of the physical and mental capacity required to continue performing at a high level.
“To compete at the highest level for this long, I’ve learned that performance starts with health,” said Alonso. “It is not only about what happens on the track, but how you prepare, recover and look after yourself every day. SHA’s method when it comes to health, longevity and performance reflects how I have approached performance throughout my career.”
Alonso’s achievements have also been measured beyond race results. A 2020 analysis developed by Formula One and Amazon Web Services used machine learning to compare qualifying performance across drivers from 1983 onwards while attempting to account for differences between cars and teams. The study ranked Alonso as the fifth-fastest driver in Formula One history.
His new advisory role will bring that experience of preparation, recovery, nutrition, sleep, movement and mental focus into SHA’s wider conversation around proactive health management. SHA says Alonso will contribute his perspective on elite performance and the practices that have enabled him to remain competitive for more than two decades.
SHA’s personalised programmes combine preventative medicine, advanced diagnostics, precision medicine, anti-inflammatory nutrition, physical training, recovery and holistic therapies. The company’s approach treats health as something to be measured and managed continuously, with programmes shaped around a guest’s individual data, lifestyle and long-term goals.
“We chose Fernando Alonso because few people demonstrate the connection between longevity and performance as clearly as he does. Competing at the highest level for more than two decades requires discipline, resilience and a continuous commitment to health, recovery and optimization. This makes Fernando a natural partner for SHA and our vision of helping people optimize their health and perform at their best for longer,” said Alejandro Bataller, managing partner of SHA and AB Living Group.
The appointment reflects a wider change within luxury wellness, where restorative retreats are increasingly being joined by programmes focused on diagnostics, healthspan and measurable performance. Preparation and recovery, once discussed mainly in relation to professional sport, are becoming part of a broader proposition for executives, entrepreneurs and other clients whose work places sustained demands on their physical and cognitive health.
SHA currently operates destinations in Spain and Mexico, with SHA Emirates scheduled to open in 2027. As the company expands its international presence, Alonso provides a global bridge between elite sport and medical wellness. His value to the partnership lies not in a career viewed retrospectively, but in one that continues to test the principles SHA wants to represent: adaptation, resilience and the ability to perform for longer.
