The Breakout Hack Launches in the UK
Today sees the launch of Australia’s fastest growing skincare brand, The Breakout Hack, exclusively with Boots Nationwide.
Founder, Rachael Wilde, launched tbh skincare (now The Breakout Hack) in March 2020 from her home. She initially sold $4k worth of products on the first day of launch with the brand turning over $1M in as little as 18 months. The brand now has an annual run rate of $20M+ AUD and the UK is next in their sights.
With acne estimated to affect 9.4% of the global population, the demand is clear to see. Their patented formulation is free from harsh ingredients like benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid, treatments traditionally used to treat acne. Consumer trials showed that 84% of participants saw visibly clearer skin and 71% experienced fewer breakouts within just six weeks when using the brand’s hero products: Spot Treatment, Spot Cleanser, and Patch It Up Pimple Patches.
It all started five years ago, when co-founder Rachael Wilde was 22-year-old and discovered a game-changing patented technology while working in the medical device world. Bringing the products to the Australian market, the brand disrupted the acne category with products that stripped out the jargon and clinical tone usually associated with acne treatments, and showed up in its unique, fun and relatable way.
In March 2020, Rachael co-founded The Breakout Hack with her mum, who, with a career in accounting and finance, now serves as the company’s CFO.
“We wanted to create something for people who were tired of the standard, clinical solutions and wanted products that actually speak to them,” says Rachael. “For so long, acne sufferers were stuck with boring pharmaceutical products that felt super impersonal - and the ‘fun’ brands weren’t delivering real results. After blowing up on TikTok with its relatable content and building a tight-knit online community, The Breakout Hack racked up millions of likes and even more views. Now, it’s bringing that same energy across the pond to the UK.
“Launching in the UK is such a huge milestone for us,” says Rachael. “We’re big fans of the UK, and we’ve been excited to grow our community there for a long time.
