Hair Syrup makes US retail debut in more than 600 Target stores

Hair Syrup has made its US retail debut with a launch across more than 600 Target stores and online, bringing the independent British brand’s pre-wash and leave-in hair oils to American shoppers through the retailer’s new Target Beauty Studio.

The range went on sale on 10 September, joining Target’s curated selection of prestige, emerging and international beauty brands. The assortment includes Rapunzel and Growsmary, the latter developed to support scalp health. Hair Syrup’s formulas are handmade in the UK using cold-pressed ingredients, with treatments developed for concerns including dryness, breakage, oiliness and scalp imbalance.

Founded in 2020 by Lucie Macleod, Hair Syrup began as a £300 project while she was at university, experimenting with natural oils for her own bleach-damaged hair. Social media, customer recommendations and word of mouth have driven its growth, with Macleod continuing to lead product development and international expansion from Pembrokeshire, Wales.

The Target partnership follows Macleod’s appearance on BBC’s Dragons’ Den in January 2025, when all six investors declined to invest. The business has continued to expand without outside investment and now has a social media community of more than 500,000 followers. Demand from American consumers has also been building, with the brand’s website receiving more than 19,000 visits a day from the US.

Lucie Macleod, founder and CEO of Hair Syrup, comments: “Entering the U.S. has always been part of our long-term vision for Hair Syrup, so to reach this point independently and without outside investors makes it incredibly special. We’ve seen amazing demand from American customers for years through our website and social community, and this feels like a very natural next step for the brand.

“The U.S. customer already knows Hair Syrup and has been asking for greater access to our products. Now our focus is making it easier for them to discover and shop the brand in a way that feels accessible, exciting and true to the community we’ve built.”

The US launch builds on an established UK retail network that includes Boots, Superdrug, ASOS, Urban Outfitters, Beauty Bay, Amazon and JustMyLook, alongside the brand’s presence on TikTok Shop.
