Superdrug Partners with Drag Race UK To Support LGBTQAI+ community

Health and beauty retailer, Superdrug has announced a new fundraising initiative supporting the LGBTQIA+ community, as part of its ongoing partnership with national charity Switchboard – the UK’s LGBTQIA+ support line.

This initiative marks the beginning of Switchboard’s collaboration with Pennies, a micro-donation platform that allows Superdrug customers to easily ‘tap and donate’ at checkout while purchasing their beauty and skincare essentials.

To celebrate the launch, legendary Drag Race UK star Tia Kofi will be showing support on social media, helping to raise awareness of the new way to give back and encouraging donations to Switchboard through the Pennies initiative. Superdrug has supported Switchboard for the past six years, helping to fund its vital work within the LGBTQIA+ community, and ensuring the helpline is accessible to people across the UK.

This initiative makes it easier than ever for customers to contribute to this worthy cause. By simply rounding up their total to the nearest pound, shoppers can help fund critical work carried out by the Switchboard volunteers.

Superdrug Trading Director, Megan Potter said: “Our long-standing partnership with Switchboard is a core part of our mission to drive meaningful, positive change in our communities. Launching the Pennies initiative with Switchboard across all our UK stores ahead of Pride Month allows us to provide continued support for LGBTQIA+ individuals and the volunteers who provide such an invaluable lifeline to them.”

Stephanie Fuller, Switchboard CEO added: “The continued support from Superdrug and its customers has helped us reach thousands in need. We are extremely grateful for this partnership and the vital funds it generates. Each donation helps us train volunteers and offer a safe space for members of the LGBTQIA+ community facing everyday struggles or life-changing moments”

Here’s how just a few pounds can make a meaningful difference:

  • £10 helps provide essential LGBTQIA+ resources and information to UK community centres

  • £17 funds a vital conversation, email, or message with a trained listening LGBTQIA+ volunteer

  • £400 covers training for volunteers who offer hundreds of hours to support those in need

This inclusive partnership forms part of Superdrug’s continued commitment to supporting the LGBTQIA+ community, helping everyone to feel confident, celebrated and valued, allowing them to continue to champion these all-important causes.
