Obagi Saypha ChIQ
Obagi Medical has launched Obagi saypha ChIQ, an injectable hyaluronic acid filler developed for cheek augmentation and the restoration of volume through the midface. ChIQ became commercially available in the US on 1 September, following FDA approval in June. It is indicated for adults over 21 and can be placed by subcutaneous or supraperiosteal injection.
The launch follows the March introduction of Obagi saypha MagIQ, the brand’s first injectable filler. While MagIQ is intended to soften moderate to severe lines and folds in the lower face, including the nasolabial folds, ChIQ has been formulated for structural support and volume restoration across the cheeks and midface.
Developed and manufactured by Austrian aesthetics company Croma-Pharma, ChIQ uses proprietary MACRO Core Technology to create a stable, three-dimensional hyaluronic acid matrix. The technology is designed to preserve a high level of usable hyaluronic acid at the point of injection, with an even particle distribution and more predictable injection force and swelling profile.
The clear, homogeneous gel contains 23mg/mL of sodium hyaluronate and 3mg/mL of lidocaine hydrochloride to help reduce discomfort during treatment. It can be administered using either a needle or cannula.
FDA approval was supported by a randomised, multicentre study comparing the filler with Juvéderm Voluma XC. The study found ChIQ to be non-inferior to the comparator for the correction of moderate to severe midface volume loss. FDA-reviewed figures showed that 97% of ChIQ patients retained an improvement of at least one point at 24 weeks, with 72% continuing to show that level of improvement at 48 weeks. At the final assessment, 76% of participants also considered their appearance improved.
Reported post-treatment reactions included tenderness, firmness, swelling, pain, bruising, redness, discolouration and itching. Most were mild or moderate and resolved without intervention within two weeks.
The launch also follows Bridgepoint’s acquisition of Obagi Medical, completed in July in a transaction valued at up to $460 million. Bridgepoint has held an investment in injectable and regenerative aesthetics company Laboratoires VIVACY since 2023 and has previously identified opportunities for future collaboration between the two businesses.
ChIQ has currently been announced for the US market. A UK launch date under the Obagi Medical name has not yet been confirmed.
Dr.Reju-All has expanded its UK skincare collection with the launch of the Advanced PDRN Copper Peptide Serum, a cooling formula developed to support skin recovery, firmness and barrier function. The serum is aimed at concerns including uneven texture, loss of elasticity, visible signs of ageing and a weakened skin barrier. Its launch also taps into the growing interest in temperature-responsive skincare. According to clinical testing, the serum can reduce the skin’s surface temperature by up to 5°C immediately after application.
