Gisborough Hall Country House Hotel & Spa unveils £3.5m Sakura Spa

Gisborough Hall Country House Hotel & Spa officially opened Sakura Spa for August 2026, a new luxury wellness destination in North Yorkshire, marking a significant £3.5 million investment in the hotel’s health and wellbeing offering.

Set within the grounds of the historic country house hotel, Sakura Spa has been designed as a contemporary, nature-led retreat that brings together thermal wellness, holistic treatments, innovative technology and seasonal dining, while making the most of the surrounding woodland and countryside.

The spa takes its name from Sakura, the Japanese word for cherry blossom, with the concept drawing on Japanese principles of simplicity, mindfulness and connection with nature. The interiors combine Japanese minimalism with Scandinavian influences, creating a refined aesthetic through natural stone, warm wood, tactile textures and a muted palette. A signature cherry blossom scent further reinforces the concept throughout the guest journey.

Vicki Jackson, Spa Director at Sakura Spa, said:
"Sakura Spa has been created to offer something genuinely different within the North Yorkshire spa market. From the design and thermal journey through to our treatment menu, Head Spa, Welnamis experience and Koyo dining concept, every element has been carefully considered to create a cohesive wellness experience.

"We wanted to create a space that feels contemporary and luxurious but remains closely connected to the beautiful natural environment around Gisborough Hall Country House Hotel & Spa. The result is a spa where guests can spend time, slow down and experience different approaches to wellbeing within one destination."

The spa has been designed by Nic Tamlin, with spa consultancy from Nicki Kurran, and features six treatment rooms, including a dedicated couples’ suite and Sakura Head Spa. The treatment menu combines holistic and results-led experiences from premium spa brands ELEMIS and Bamford, alongside specialist wellness experiences.

A key feature of Sakura Spa is its outdoor thermal garden, designed to encourage guests to move between contrasting thermal experiences while taking in views across the surrounding woodland. Facilities include an outdoor vitality pool, Finnish sauna, herbal sauna, salt steam room and cold plunge, alongside dedicated relaxation spaces.

The spa also incorporates Welnamis, an innovative non-touch relaxation technology using sound and gentle vibrations to encourage deep relaxation and support nervous-system wellbeing. The Welnamis system is housed within a dedicated treatment environment, complementing the spa’s more traditional hands-on therapies.

Behind the scenes, the development has brought together a range of specialist spa suppliers. AGB Services supplied the pool facilities, with Anapos providing the sauna equipment. Treatment beds have been supplied by Ellisons, while Gharieni supplied the Welnamis equipment. Sunset Vibes the uniforms and BC Software the towels and spa linens, while spa software is provided by Journey.

Completing the guest experience is Koyo, Sakura Spa’s dedicated dining concept. Named after the Japanese word for autumn leaves, Koyo takes inspiration from kōyō, the Japanese appreciation of the changing colours of the seasons. The menu focuses on fresh, nourishing and seasonal dishes, including salads, brunch options, light meals, juices and wellness drinks.

The launch of Sakura Spa represents an important evolution of Gisborough Hall’s wellness proposition, extending the hotel’s offering beyond traditional spa treatments to create a more holistic experience centred around thermal bathing, relaxation, food and connection with nature.

Sakura Spa is now open to hotel residents and day guests, with a range of spa experiences available including the Sakura Spa Day from £185 per person, Woodland Escape Spa Day from £140, Simply Spa from £60, Sunrise Retreat from £110 and Twilight Retreat from £125.

The Sakura Spa Club also offers a limited-membership programme, providing one spa visit each month alongside preferential rates, priority booking, early access to events and additional hotel benefits.
