The Organic Pharmacy Retinal Renewal Night Serum
The Organic Pharmacy has entered the retinal category with the launch of Retinal Renewal Night Serum, a pharmacist-formulated overnight treatment combining 0.03% encapsulated retinal with 0.5% bakuchiol, peptides and rose water.
Developed to address wrinkles, uneven texture, pigmentation and loss of firmness, the dermatologist-tested serum uses an encapsulation system to release retinal gradually. This is intended to improve the active’s stability and tolerability while reducing the potential for irritation traditionally associated with retinoids.
Retinal is a vitamin A derivative that requires one conversion step within the skin to become retinoic acid, while retinol requires two. The controlled-release formula is designed to support collagen production and cell renewal while remaining suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin.
Bakuchiol, derived from babchi seeds, complements the retinal with skin-smoothing, antioxidant and brightening benefits. Peptides support firmness, elasticity and the skin barrier, while damask rose water provides hydration and helps calm redness.
The formula is composed of 95.1% natural ingredients, with 76.9% coming from organic farming, calculated according to ISO 16128 standards.
In clinical testing, once-nightly application increased skin brightness by 36% and smoothness by 15.6% after 28 days. Fine lines decreased by 12.1%, pigmentation by 8.6% and wrinkle depth by 6.6%, while skin tone uniformity increased by 7.6%. The testing also recorded a 15.2% reduction in transepidermal water loss after 14 days, indicating improved moisture retention.
New retinal users are advised to begin by applying the serum twice a week before gradually increasing the frequency as their skin adjusts. One or two pumps should be applied to clean, dry skin across the face, neck and décolleté in the evening, followed by moisturiser. Daily SPF is recommended, and the serum is not advised for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Retinal Renewal Night Serum is available through The Organic Pharmacy’s website, its flagship store and clinic in Chelsea, and Marks & Spencer.
