VOYA Bcomes a Certified B Corporation
Luxury organic seaweed skincare brand VOYA, founded in Strandhill, Co. Sligo has officially become a Certified B Corporation, achieving the world’s leading sustainability and social impact accreditation at its very first attempt. This extraordinary accomplishment places VOYA among a global community of companies using business as a force for good and makes it one of only a handful of Irish beauty brands to achieve this highly sought-after status.
B Corp certification verifies a company’s entire social and environmental performance across governance, workers, community, customers and impact on the planet. To pass, businesses must score a minimum of 80 out of 100 in B Lab’s rigorous Impact Assessment. VOYA surpassed this threshold on its first attempt, a hugely rare feat in the certification process, underlining how deeply its founding values of sustainability, care and integrity are woven into every aspect of the business.
VOYA was co-founded in 2006 by husband-and-wife team Mark and Kira Guckian Walton, inspired by the centuries-old tradition of seaweed bathing in Strandhill, Co. Sligo. Their vision was to share the therapeutic power of wild Irish seaweed with the world, creating the first-ever certified organic seaweed-based skincare brand.
Today, seaweed remains at the heart of VOYA. Each piece is hand-harvested from the Atlantic by eye (never by machine) to protect regrowth, preserve biodiversity, and harness seaweed’s natural ability to act as a powerful carbon sink. This pioneering approach allows VOYA to deliver results driven skincare that benefits people and planet alike.
B Corp certification recognises not just VOYA’s environmental stewardship, but its wider commitment to employees, community and ethical growth. From supporting Irish jobs in its Sligo base, to partnering with local suppliers, to creating a positive, inclusive workplace, VOYA’s B Corp journey validates its longstanding philosophy: that true luxury is built on respect for nature, people, and future generations.
Mark Walton, VOYA co-founder, comments: “From day one, our mission was to prove that beauty could be both luxurious and kind. Achieving B Corp certification on our very first attempt is not only a proud milestone for us, but also confirmation that the principles we founded VOYA on; respect for nature, care for our people, and uncompromising quality. These commitments are as strong today as they were when we began. We are delighted to join this extraordinary global community of businesses driving positive change, and proud to fly the flag for Irish sustainability leadership on the world stage.”
Kira Guckian Walton, VOYA co-founder, adds: “Ireland’s coastline and natural resources are our greatest inspiration. We are passionate about protecting them for future generations while bringing the benefits of seaweed-based wellness to people worldwide. Becoming a B Corp is recognition of our team’s hard work and our commitment to sustainability, community and ethical growth. This is a huge milestone for us but believe me we still have big dreams and plans ahead!”
