Manual Face Cleansing in Practice

Manual cleansing has its loyal supporters and heated opponents. Many salons successfully use it in their daily work, but it requires a lot of knowledge, experience, technical skills, and proper communication with the client.

Why cleanse?

Manual skin cleansing is a popular treatment for combination, seborrheic, acne-prone, or seborrheic dermatitis skin. Its main goal is to remove closed and open comedones. Both forms are created from fatty substances (sebum), fragments of the keratinized epidermis, and pollutants that remain trapped under the surface of the epidermis. In the case of open comedones, their contents are released outside the pores of the skin and exposed to air - as a result of the oxidation, comedones become dark. In the case of closed comedones, the material filling the pore does not come out, and therefore it is not exposed to oxidation and does not change color - that's why it remains white. Extraction of closed and open comedones makes the skin look fresh, and often younger as a result. Cleansed pores are not "pushed" by accumulating impurities, so they do not expand further.

Advantages of manual cleansing

Manual skin cleansing is an important element of the practice of many experienced specialists. and it is difficult to replace this type of treatment with other methods. Problematic skin with a large number of comedones definitely requires the elimination of blockages in sebaceous glands, which are a breeding ground for bacteria. This is especially important in the case of initial teenage acne. In skin that has not been cleansed for a long time, even after removing the lesions, pores remain expanded and there are gaps. The faster you can remove comedones, the faster epidermis regeneration occurs. However, it appears that many universities do not teach manual cleansing - it is said to be outdated, which may lead to infection with fungi and bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus.

It is generally agreed that no acid treatment or treatment using ultrasonic peeling will clean blocked skin pores. The content collected in comedones is so compact and located at such a depth that after applying the peeling, one would have to use a strong detergent to dilute the secretion. This is why cleansing is performed, which can then be supplemented with treatments that regulate the work of sebaceous glands, narrow pores, minimize scars and discoloration. In an ideal situation, you can do the cleansing once, and then start restructuring the skin. However, the first time is often not successful, because even after a very thorough analysis of skin problems, you may not always get the solution right. Then, after some time, you may need to repeat the cleansing. However, this is definitely not a treatment that should be performed regularly.

When to cleanse?

The basic sign of skin pollution is the appearance of blackheads. Blackheads are easily susceptible to bacterial infection, which can cause the formation of eruptions. Another symptom is a decrease or lack of skin absorbency. After cleansing, clients report that their skin has become absorbent like a sponge! Skin that is free of pollution absorbs moisture, vitamins, and nutrients more easily. Cleansing eliminates skin shine, tightens pores, reduces problems with oily skin caused by sebum secretion, and frees the skin from irritating bacteria. Thanks to the cleansing power of the treatment, sebum overproduction is stabilized, pores are narrowed, and the face looks significantly healthier and more radiant.
