Fotona appoints Alasdair Owen to newly created Chief Product Officer role
Fotona has appointed medtech executive Alasdair Owen as its first Chief Product Officer as the medical laser and energy-based device company strengthens its global product and innovation strategy.
Owen took up the newly created position on 24 August 2026 and will report directly to Fotona President and CEO Jeff Duchemin. He will oversee the company’s Research and Development, product portfolio strategy and worldwide innovation initiatives.
The appointment comes as Fotona invests in its product pipeline and looks to shorten the journey from customer insight to commercialised solutions. Owen will help to shape the company’s portfolio, strengthen its R&D capabilities and guide the development of future platforms across aesthetics, dermatology, dentistry, women’s health and surgery. Working closely with practitioners, his remit will include identifying emerging clinical needs and translating them into technologies that support clinical performance, patient outcomes and practice growth.
“Alasdair has a unique ability to connect practitioner and patient insights, technology, and business strategy that will help us move faster to deliver new solutions that our customers need,” said Jeff Duchemin, President and CEO of Fotona. “As we continue to expand across specialties and geographies, his leadership will strengthen our ability to deliver solutions that improve clinical outcomes, elevate patient experiences, and help practitioners grow their practices.”
Owen joins Fotona from surgical robotics company Intuitive, where he most recently led European Product Portfolio Marketing. In the role, he was responsible for strategy, growth and innovation across the da Vinci platform and its robotic-assisted surgery portfolio.
His wider experience spans global product management and development, upstream marketing and commercialisation within the medtech sector. He has also worked with key opinion leaders to inform long-term product strategies across complex healthcare markets.
“Fotona has built a remarkable foundation of laser innovation over the past 60 years,” said Alasdair Owen, Chief Product Officer of Fotona. “What attracted me to Fotona is its unique combination of scientific innovation, engineering excellence, and deep customer trust. I look forward to partnering with practitioners around the world to better understand their evolving needs and translate those insights into next-generation solutions that empower practitioners, improve patient outcomes, and help shape the future of clinical care worldwide.”
Fotona has more than 60 years of experience in medical laser and energy-based technologies, holds over 300 medical technology patents and works with more than 60,000 customers across over 100 countries.
